It’s an app created by a developer called Lighthouse (formerly H5), and it can’t be installed from the Google Play Store. You may have run into an app called Touch for Facebook, but it’s important to know that this app has nothing to do with Facebook. This is a special version of the official Facebook app designed for low-end devices or users on very slow mobile internet connections.Īs long as you remember to download, install, and log in to the app before you’re stuck in the middle of nowhere, it can be a lifesaver when the signal bars start to drop. If you’re using Facebook Touch for speed and bandwidth reasons and you have an Android or iOS device, you’re probably better off using the Facebook Lite app. The user experience isn’t that great either, especially if you’re using Facebook on mobile devices that are powerful enough to run the official mobile apps without problems. There’s no desktop version of Facebook Touch, so the site just sort of stretched itself awkwardly across a desktop browser’s screen. The Downsides of Facebook Touchįacebook Touch clearly has its uses, but a few things about it can be less than ideal.įirst, it doesn’t really work all that well on a desktop internet browser since it was never designed for large, high-resolution displays. The apps and full mobile web page have a lot going on and can be a battery hog in some cases. The Facebook Touch website can help stretch your battery a little further since it only loads the bare minimum of content you need to use Facebook. Modern smartphones have impressive battery endurance, but when you’re down to just the last few percentage points, you’ll want to save as much power as possible. This is probably not Facebook’s fault it’s just that when you have a device with limited bandwidth or CPU power, images may load in faster and videos are likely to play with few if any stutters. ![]() While it’s hard to prove as a universal situation, it seems that some users generally get high-quality images on their devices when the app or full mobile website doesn’t always put their best foot forward. It’s the perfect solution to accessing your social media on a slow internet connection. Just access the touch site from your device’s browser when you need it. It’s a nice bonus that there’s no need to download an app. These days, plain 3G is also too slow for the modern Facebook experience, but if you’re dipping into GPRS territory, then Facebook Touch can help. If your Facebook needs fall within the limited functionality of Facebook Touch, and if you spend a lot of time on Facebook, Facebook Touch’s light footprint can add up in terms of time saved.įacebook Touch isn’t just easy on low-end CPUs it’s also a good fallback when you’re someplace where you can’t get 3G or better connection speeds. This means that it runs well on low-end handsets or devices and absolutely flies on something newer or better. Since Facebook Touch is such a stripped-down version of the full-fat mobile Facebook application or desktop site, it doesn’t use much in the way of resources. ![]() This brings us to the next important Facebook Touch advantage – speed! Facebook Touch Is Fast! So even if you do have an Android or iOS device that’s at the low-end of the range or an older phone, Facebook Touch is a good solution. The most important ones are that it’s less cluttered, uses less data, and works better on devices with a relatively low-resolution screen. However, Facebook Touch still has advantages over it. Yes, it’s true the mobile website was designed for touchscreen devices from the ground up. “Now hang on,” you might be thinking, “the Facebook mobile site is also designed for touch!”. ![]() Still, Facebook Touch can accommodate anything with a suitable browser, so whatever operating system your device is running, it’s going to be a decent user-friendly experience. You can find out more about how we test gaming gear in our full GamesRadar Hardware Policy. I live-streamed on Twitch with the Hexa Lights in the background and I also created TikTok content with the wall light in the background, behind my setup. When testing these Govee lights, I installed them in different locations in my home and used them every day for almost a month. When testing streaming gear we add the products to our streaming setup and actually go live with them to ensure we fully understand the experience that streams will have when using the product. From my experience the Govee Lights punch well above their weight, and if you're considering the Nano Leaf's based on their reputation, you may just find that the Govee Lights are a better value option that don't compromise on quality. The Govee lights come in significantly cheaper at around $120 / £120 for 10 panels, whereas the Nano Leaf alternative will set you back $180 / £180 for just nine panels. The main point of comparison I have for the Hexa Lights are, of course, Nano Leaf's hexagon lights. Naturally, they are amazing and a wonderful bonus to have in the background of my streams or TikToks, but even just having them in my home lifts my mood and makes me appreciate my space so much more. I feel like my house actually looks cool and I'm always excited to have people over just to show them off. This might sound like a strange sentence but I have no other way to describe it. Using these lights has made me love being in my home. (Image credit: Future) Should you buy the Govee lights range? So, if you wanted to cover an entire wall in Hexa Lights, you could do so and connect all of the lights to one another to ensure they were configured correctly. It's also worth noting that most light kits - which in my case were the Wall Lights and Hexa Lights - can be expanded with additional kits so you can grow your display over time too. You're also able to easily save profiles so you can quickly change between them from your smart home app rather than having to open the Govee app each time. From the individual segments you want to edit, to whether or not you want them to flash, and the intervals of said flashing, these lights can really set the mood in whatever space you put them in. You can pick from tons of preset options or you can pick exactly what you want the level of customization here is so amazing. Now, the real core elements and USP of these lights are the wide range and flexibility you have when it comes to color customization options. This enables you to control them from the Google app and with voice control, and you can do the same with Alexa or Apple Home. Once you're up and running, you can then add the lights to your smart home (mine being Google Home). ![]() ![]() Not for customers, not for competition, and potentially not even for indie devs. It’s a win-win for all the hard-working indies, for the spirit of competition to make others react in business-positive ways, and for gamers everywhere.Īs the launch of the Epic store unfolds and I’ve learned more about the dynamics of each store, I have come to the following conclusion: the Epic Store, in its current state, is not good for anyone. With a flurry of games announced as Epic exclusives at the Game Awards, the headlines practically write themselves: Steam, growing complacent with the lack of competition, suddenly has a new rival that makes more money for indie devs. This, coming off the news of Steam offering financial breaks to the highest earners of Steam, all but ignoring a majority of indie devs, was primed to make the biggest splash possible. ![]() Their proposal to devs was simple: you could be earning 88% instead of 70%, complete with a curated store and access to the potentially second biggest audience on PC right now. Perhaps it was under that guise of warm, cuddly feelings that Epic, flush with cash from Fortnite, announced their own PC game launcher store. It feels good when indies win, especially at a time where its never been more difficult to survive as one. Its why game fans like us nod our heads at Call of Duty making the most money ever for another holiday, or Xbox Game Pass adding a million subscribers, but can feel warm, cozy, even excited about the latest indie dev making the most money ever with their Switch port, or a new breakout hit exploding out of Early Access. That’s not to say there aren’t some cold, calculating moves done in the background, but for the most part indies have enjoyed existing outside the large, lumbering business of games, while utilizing the exact same delivery structures to sell to consumers, whether that’s the PlayStation Store, Steam, you name it. While AAA game companies make their dollar to dollar decisions on using nylon for their $200 Collectors Edition bag to save a few bucks or revamp their loot box structure to better their game (in the face of outright hostile feedback), we, the Indie Devs, make games from the heart™. You want the game, you must use this client.Indie devs like myself have always likened to be the scrappy underdogs underneath the machine. A lot of titles have been exclusively reserved for this platform which doesn't give users much of a choice in using this app. There's no guarantee users will keep utilizing this app. Unfortunately, you can't change the start page which means you'll always have to deal with the video game sale page when launching the app. The menus do move quickly and the various discounts and offers make this app attractive, at first. ![]() It's hard to say if the client is necessarily that bad or if it's simply just not original enough. It's not bad, but you can't help but notice this application is some sort of unfinished hybrid between the above two mentioned categories. What about Epic Games? While the games created under Epic Game's supervision can be purchased from this platform, so can other games. These advertise and sell their respective publisher's products. ![]() Frankly, Steam feels like a gaming universe, thriving from the existence of user engaging activities (achievements, exchanges, forums, etc).ĮA's Origin, Ubisoft's Uplay and Rockstar's Social Club are all means to an end. It may very well track your played time and offer dozens of promotions, but unfortunately, it's not got anything else beyond that. Right from the start, if you exclude the gaming engine side, which most of us will since the subject is pretty heavy, you'll be left with a very simplistic game download client. It's got tutorials and even assets you can buy for the development of future games, so long as they are created using Epic Games' engine. The rest of the app might not really take you by surprise but the game engine section will. Aside from that, the Unreal Engine section is a must-check if you're keen on getting this particular client. ![]() Yes, there could be a certain vibe tied to this app for fans of the brand. There's a platform where you can get those, and it's not Steam, Origin or Uplay. The good news?įor fans of titles nurtured by Epic Games, that's great news. Depending on your stance, it could be good or bad news that Epic Games has released its own game client for you to access. Whether it's a game they've published, a title based on the Unreal Engine or simply the name itself, there's no doubt you must have crossed paths with this brand at some point in your gaming life. It doesn't really matter if you're a hardcore gamer-if you've played a couple of games, there's a big chance you probably stumbled upon a title that had something to do with Epic Games. ![]() ![]() ![]() As the episodic function of these verb forms is a default function, it can be overridden by a nonepisodic, e.g. Holidays at : Vintage Postcards, Old Postcards, Antique Postcards for Collectors Deltiology is the hobby of collecting post cards, ephemera and postal history.
